TODAY’S READING: Josh. 23,24; Ps. 44; 1 Cor. 11 SCRIPTURE Josh. 24:14,15 "Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD [15] But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." OBSERVATION Joshua is a very old man, and this section of Scripture is his farewell to the Israelites. My heart is captured by the first and last sentence of these verses: Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness...But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." APPLICATION Two words capture Joshua's character, "NOW" - in this moment, not maybe, not tomorrow, NOW - fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. "BUT" - But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. - You can follow us, you can find another way, you can fake it. BUT for me and my family, we'll serve Jesus, faithfully; NOW! PRAYER Father, NOW, this day I will serve you faithfully. BUT, when I'm gone, when ever that may be; through the power of the Holy Spirit may my family who is serving you NOW, continue to serve You and may they serve You better than I did, and may their family, serve you better than they do. My prayer LORD is that each generation will continue to serve You and that each generation will do it better than the generation before them. May the Fear of the LORD, be on my mind, heart, and soul each and every day. May I serve You by serving others. |
