TODAY'S READING: Josh. 18-20; 1 Cor. 9
SCRIPTURE
1 Cor. 9:19-22 [19] Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. [20] To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. [21] To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. [22] To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.
1 Cor. 9:27 [27] No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
OBSERVATION
In verses 19-22, there is this call to be. To be who you need to be for many. So that some might me saved.
Then at verse 27 there is this call to action. Making your body a slave to yourself. So that when you preach to others, you are a credible witness.
We are called to be and to do so that some may be saved.
APPLICATION
This is like a wrestling match for me. Being all things to all people and still be true to myself.
Being a credible witness, and yet being a common man, being contemporary.
The bottom line seems to be putting others before myself.
Eat, drink, and be merry in public.
Fast, in private.
Oh, this is going to be a long wrestling match.
PRAYER
God, help me.
My tendency on this one is going to get me in trouble more often than not.
God, help me.
