CHEERLEADER

TODAY’S READING: Judges 19-21; 2 Cor. 4

SCRIPTURE

2 Cor. 4:16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. [17] For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. [18] So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

OBSERVATION

We think of the apostle Paul in any number of roles, teacher, evangelist, mentor, writer, prophet, etc. Few think of him as cheerleader. But this chapter in 2 Corinthians is a chapter full of encouragement. The chapter begins and ends with these words ... "we do not lose heart." - I need to just rest in that - Paul speaks of light and momentary troubles. I get caught up in the crisis and not in Christ and they seem heavy and forever. Paul speaks of fixing our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. I get tunnel vision and become overly concerned with my own good, rather than looking to God. Paul knows our default is selfishness, and yet he speaks into my life ... "don't lose heart."

APPLICATION

Be encouraged! Look beyond the immediate! Encourage others!
Paul's more than a cheerleader, he is a role model.

PRAYER

Father,
Thank you again for your holy Word, and the words that bring such an encouragement.
This day allow me to be a cheerleader to others.
Allow me to cheer them on, "in Christ Jesus."
