TODAY’S READING: Ruth 1,2; Ps. 53,61; 2 Cor. 5
Scripture
Ruth 1:16-18 But Ruth replied, "Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. [17] Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me." [18] When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her.
Ps. 53:5a,6 [5] But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
where there was nothing to dread...[6] Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
Ps. 61:1-5 Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. [2] From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. [3] For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. [4] I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. [5] For you, God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
2 Cor. 5:20,21 [20] We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. [21] God made him who had no sin to be sin* for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Observation
In Ruth, we have a cry from the heart, "Where you go, I will go; Where you stay, I will stay, your people will be my people. - OH THAT WE WOULD CLING TO GOD LIKE RUTH CLINGS TO NAOMI. In Ps. 53; 5a & 6; we have a call to the heart, verse 5 a says: But there they are, overwhelmed with dread, where there was nothing to dread... IF WE ARE PREOCCUPIED WITH "DREAD" WE ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO THE SAVIOR, TO THE "SALVATION OF ISRAEL" In Ps. 61: 1-5 we have the cry of our soul, Hear me, Listen to me, lead me, to the ROCK that in higher than I. It's the cry of my heart in Ruth begging to always be in His presence. It's the call of my heart to be available, trusting in the Savior. It's the Amen, "let it be, let it be of verse 5 in Ps. 61 saying, You've heard my vows give me my heritage. In 2 Cor. 5:20,21; that heritage is played out: "I am Christ ambassador, through me God makes his appeal, "Be reconciled, to God." Covered with the blood of Christ, and empowered by His resurrection, we might become the righteousness of God.
Application
To cry out to God, to call out to God - means to trust God in all situations.
To trust in the "ROCK" that is higher than me.
Prayer
Father,
I want to love you, but there is this part of me that wants to hate certain people. If I really want to be with you, if I really and going to trust you. Then I'll trust those I hate to you, reconciling myself to you, and asking to be your righteousness to others, for others, even those I hate.
