PICK A SIN

TODAY'S READING: 1 Sam. 15,16; 1 Chr.5; Mt. 1

SCRIPTURE

1 Sam. 15:22 But Samuel replied: "Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

OBSERVATION

The LORD rejects Saul as King, in fact at verses 10 & 35 in chapter 15 of 1 Samuel the Bible says that, the LORD regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel.
He rejected Saul, He had regrets; because Saul turned away from God and didn't carry out His instructions. The sins of Saul: at v. 12 he makes a monument in his own honor [got big headed]. At v. 24 he was afraid of the men, so he gave in to them [loss faith, fear men, more than God].Then at v.27 he clung to Samuel, instead of turning to God [loss hope]. V. 30 Saul begs Samuel to come back with him and put on the show before the people [he shows his true colors, this is about him, and him not loosing face.] Samuel told him at v. 22, there is a better way! But Saul chooses to sin.

APPLICATION

God has placed the characters that are in the Bible there for us to learn from. The good ones and the bad ones. Saul committed sins I'm faced with every day.
Getting big headed - like I'm the Bible answer man or things stupid like that.
Scared of what others will think if I obey what the LORD is telling me to do or say.
Running to other people for advise, when I should run to God first and then let Him put other people in my life.
Playing the game, being two-faced. Being more concerned about what people think about me, than about what God desires from me.
The alternative: obedience, that's better than picking a sin.

PRAYER

Father,
I read the Scriptures, and recognize myself in some of the characters some of the time.
This day, with the help of the Holy Spirit and the love of Jesus Christ, may I be obedient.
This day may I give You no regrets.
