TODAY'S READING: Proverbs 16-18; Romans 12
SCRIPTURE
SCRIPTURE
Romans 12:9-18 [9] Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. [10] Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. [11] Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. [12] Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. [13] Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. [14] Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. [15] Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. [16] Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.* Do not think you are superior. [17] Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. [18] If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
This section of God’s Word begins by telling us that love must be sincere and the section ends with ... “as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Between these two verses are “one anothers”
Be devoted to one another
Honor one another above yourself
Live in harmony with one another.
Paul spells out how to accomplish the “one anothers” in verse 12 he tells us: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
To get to the “one anothers” which really should just be a natural reaction not a regulation; to get there I need to learn to be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer.
For me -
Joyful in hope - is being optimistic
Patient in affliction - is being humble in all circumstances
Faithful in prayer - is being bold in crisis, turning to God first, turning to God always.
Father,
I’m nowhere near where you would have be been spiritually.
Draw me close, Draw me closer.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, shape me, mold me, make me; more Christ like.
Joyful, Patient and Faithful, loving others more than myself.
Father,
Take me there.
