HONESTLY!

TODAY'S READING: 2 Sam. 11,12; Ps. 51; Mt. 23

SCRIPTURE

Ps. 51:17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.

OBSERVATION

This psalm is David's confession, and repentance for having an affair with Bathsheba and for having her husband killed. It starts with begging for mercy, gets to confession and repentance and ends with sacrifice.
APPLICATION

When I first read about this account in the Bible I think to myself, "While at least I'm not that sinful" or am I? In God's eyes sin is sin. Romans says, all have sinned, and that the wages of sin is death. So, even though it is bad theology, lets go here for a moment. Murder is worse than lying to your mother. Stealing is worse than cheating. Having an affair is worse than looking at porn. WHO DECIDES? HONESTLY! Who decides which sin is worse than the next? I think that Devil wins when we look to the sin. We need to be looking to the Savior. We need to get to where David got. Beyond, I'm sorry, to transformation. To a broken spirit and a contrite heart. HONESTLY!

PRAYER

Father,
David in the same psalm cries out, "For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight."
I too, know my sin, and it is against you, create in me a broken spirit, a contrite heart.
Never let me measure myself against the actions of others.
I've sinned.
I need a Savior.
It's not that, "I'm not that bad" - HONESTLY - I've sinned, change my heart.
Change me, O God. HONESTLY
