Jonah 2:8,9 [8] "Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit God's love for them. [9] But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, 'Salvation comes from the LORD.'"
2 Tim. 2:19 [19] Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."
2 Tim. 2:22 Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Observation
From the words of Jonah that when I cling to worthless idols I forfeit God's love.
To the knowledge that God knows who are his, and they are quite simply the ones that confess his name and turn from wickedness and ending with the call from Paul to Flee evil desires and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace with others who call on the Lord.
COULD GOD HAVE MADE IT ANY PLAINER?
Application
Take the test:
Am I clinging to worthless idols?
Am I turning away from wickedness?
Am I fleeing evil desires?
Am I the Lord's?
Prayer
Lord,
I confess that on any given day, there are idols that I cling too, wickedness that I run to, and evil desires that I entertain.
But that being said, this morning I've turned to your Word,
this morning, I lay my shortcomings at the cross
this morning, I claim Jesus, and I know that in spite of myself
I AM A CHILD OF GOD
Help me to live, where I am at this moment.
