HE LIVES!

SCRIPTURE
2 Corinthians 4:7-10 [Message]
7 If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That’s to prevent anyone from confusing God’s incomparable power with us. 8 As it is, there’s not much chance of that. You know for yourselves that we’re not much to look at. We’ve been surrounded and battered by troubles, but we’re not demoralized; we’re not sure what to do, 9 but we know that God knows what to do; we’ve been spiritually terrorized, but God hasn’t left our side; we’ve been thrown down, but we haven’t broken. 10 What they did to Jesus, they do to us—trial and torture, mockery and murder; what Jesus did among them, he does in us—he lives!

OBSERVATION
I love the part of verse 7 that says; We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. It's good to be reminded - we carry around Jesus - and He lives!

APPLICATION
Keep the bells and whistles of daily living to a minimum- let people see Jesus in me- Jesus, alive and well!
Look for those opportunities to do random acts of kindness.

PRAYER
Father
You know my propensity is to be selfish, make me selfless.
You know my propensity is to be prideful, make me prayerful.
You know my propensity is to covet connection with others,
make me a conduit to one great than I.
He lives, He lives within me, let Him shine!

2 Corinthians 4:7-10, cf v.13ff, Twice in this chapter Paul makes the statement, “we do not lose heart.” Clearly, he is speaking out of his human weakness using the metaphor “jars of clay.” But this fragile container holds a treasure – “the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in Jesus Christ.” For me, this knowledge is redeeming. But it is not just the knowledge of God and his Christ, it is also the light of hope that the knowledge brings into my life especially when I read about Paul’s notion of community and reunion, “knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.” I am most intrigued with the words “us with you.” Someday, I will be brought together with Scott. Scott and I are included in the words, “us and you.”

“Savior God, you are awesome. You not only redeem what was lost. You also give us what we never had – a long, very long, life with Scott. I love you, Lord. Please help me not to lose heart but to be always containing the treasure.”
