TODAY’S READING: Josh. 1,2; Ps. 37; 1 Cor. 3
Scripture
Joshua 1:6-9,18b: Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.[7] "Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.
go. [8] Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. [9] Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."[18b] Only be strong and courageous!"
Observation
God tells Joshua, "Moses, is dead! As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will never leave you or forsake you." Then God tells Joshua over and over again; "Be strong and courageous" So the question is what does strong and courageous look like?
It's leading others, it's following God, it's obedient, it's meditation, it's not being afraid and it's not be discouraged.
It's not just climbing a hill and planting a flag.
It's wrestling with God the rest of our lives.
Application
Be strong and courageous is a call to obedience.
It's a call to action.
It's a call to God.
It's much much more than just hearing, it's doing.
I choose to accept the call: Be strong / Be courageous
Prayer
Holy Spirit,
Make me strong, make me courageous, give me a hunger for the Scriptures.
Teach me your ways, Oh LORD; teach me your ways.
[Prayers from Ps. 37]
[3] Trust in the LORD and do good;
[4] Take delight in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
[7] Be still before the LORD
and wait patiently for him;
