TODAY'S READING: 1 Sam.1,2; Ps.66; 2 Cor. 7 SCRIPTURE 2 Cor.7:1 Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. OBSERVSATION Therefore, since - therefore since what? Since God in 2 Cor. 6:16 promised to live with me, and walk with me, I have an obligation, purify myself. It doesn't say, let God purify you. From everything, yes;everything that contaminates body and spirit. Perfect holiness. It's a tall order to get a great promise. APPLICATION Steps to purity. 1] Accept the promises. Now that He is living with me and walking beside me. 2] Ask the questions. What's contaminating my body and my spirit? 3] Adhere to the answers. 4] Accomplish the goal. PRAYER Father, When I stress, I turn my back from you and to my stomach for food, comfort food, food that put me in the hospital. I need to trust that You are living in me, and walking beside me. I need to step closer to you, perhaps jump right up in your arms when I'm stressed. Holy Spirit, Strengthen me, remind me of the promise, remind me of the obligation, encourage me to turn to God and not from God during moments of testing. Allow me to attain perfect holiness. A couple of Sunday's ago, Pastor Ed said that, "Love has demands" that hit me wrong, but perhaps it does. Help me understand my part in our relationship. |
