TODAY'S READING: 1 Sam. 11,12; 1 Chr. 1; 2 Cor. 11
SCRIPTURE
1 SAM. 12:20-25 "Do not be afraid," Samuel replied. "You have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart. [21] Do not turn away after useless idols. They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless. [22] For the sake of his great name the LORD will not reject his people, because the LORD was pleased to make you his own. [23] As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. [24] But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. [25] Yet if you persist in doing evil, both you and your king will perish."
OBSERVATION
You've got to love it; "you have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart. The verse speaks to me of God's grace, I tend to turn a lot of different directions before I turn to God. Yet, when I turn to Him, there He is, pleased to call me His own. Pleased to allow me in my brokenness to pray for others and to teach others what is good and right. Like Samuel; God doesn't wait until I've "arrived" to use me, He uses me in other people's lives while on the journey. The call, "turn from evil, turn to me."The alternative v. 25 "persist in doing evil and perish." How did Moses say it in Deut. 30:19 ? "...Now choose life, so that you and your children may live"
I choose life
APPLICATION
We all have idols. People we give too much unhealthy time too [people on TV for one] , or things [comfort foods or drink, escapism to name a few] that consume us.
And yet the Bible tells us that God is pleased to make me his own.
May I fear Him, serve Him; faithfully, with all my heart.
PRAYER
Father,
There is an old Hymn, that says; "I need thee every hour"- shoot- I need thee every minute.
Holy Spirit,
Create in me today, a fear and love for God so that I turn to Him first, not last.
Thank you for the grace of God that you've put into my life.
Continue to help me work out my salvation and claim 1 Cor. 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Jesus,
You are unbelievable, Your grace, covers my sin.
Thank you.
