TODAY'S READING: 1 Sam. 20,21; Ps.34; Mt. 5
SCRIPTURE
Ps. 34:6-9 [6] This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. [7] The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. [8] Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed are those who take refuge in him.[9] Fear the LORD, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.
Matt. 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
OBSERVATION
I don't want to confuse poor in spirit, with pouting. Poor in spirit, reflects being humble. Poor in Spirit recognizes need. It's the Psalmist calling of the LORD, save me and trusting God to show up. I love the imagery of "taste and see" that the LORD is good.
APPLICATION
It's strawberry season, and I'm looking forward to some strawberry shortcake. When I look at a bowl filled with shortcake, and strawberries, and whipping cream it looks, GOOD. But when I taste it, OH, it's wonderful.
When I look to the Word of God and discover Jesus, it looks good.
But when I experience Him, OH, it's wonderful.
PRAYER
Father,
Today, I claim Your Word as truth. Today, I claim Ps. 34:9 Fear the LORD, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.
Today, I lack nothing.
OH, it's wonderful.
