We've all got a King

Today's Reading: Jeremiah 23,25; John 19

Scripture
John 19:15 But they shouted. “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!” “Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked. “We have no king but Caesar.” the chief priests answered.

Observation
When I read the events of the cross, it is so easy to be self-righteous, the priests pulling a power play, Pilate pressured to please. But if I’m honest with myself and pause to put things in perspective, let me ask myself.
How many times in a day do I say, “take him away” - when I willfully sin!
How many times in a day do I say, “crucify him” - when I do less than give my best, it kills him.
How many times in a day do I say, “I have no king but Caesar” - for isn’t my Caesar the satisfying of my own wants and desires,
We’ve all got a king, how often do I let Jesus be mine?

Application
When will I get it? How great God is! How good God is! How much God loves me.
God left heaven, God came to earth, God gave his life, God wants to give me life.
When will I get it?
I mean I say I do, but I also say take him away, crucify him, I have no king but Caesar.
I don’t say it with words, I say it with actions.
When will I get it?

Prayer
God of Glory, give me grace
God of Grace; be merciful to me a sinner.
God of Mercy; forgive my sins.
God of Forgiveness; be my King, crucify my shameful actions, come to me.
Savior
Lord
King
